Is a 0.5 HP pump enough for a 2 storey house?
In most cases yes: lifting from a ground-level sump to a tank two storeys up (10 to 15 metres of head), a good 0.5 HP self-priming monoblock delivers 30 to 40 LPM, filling a 1,000 litre tank in about half an hour.
When do I need a 1 HP pump?
When head reaches 20 to 30 metres: third or fourth storey tanks, basement sumps, or long friction-heavy pipe runs. At those heights a 0.5 HP machine slows to a trickle while a 1 HP maintains practical fill times.
What is the difference between monoblock and submersible pumps?
A monoblock sits outside the water, pump and motor in one casing, and suits sumps and surface sources within suction reach. A submersible operates underwater, in borewells or pits, pushing water up rather than sucking, which is mandatory beyond 7 to 8 metres of depth.
