What is the difference between 6A and 16A modular switches?

A 6A switch handles lighter loads — lights, ceiling fans and small appliances. A 16A switch and 16A 3-pin socket are built for heavy loads like geysers, air conditioners, microwaves and water heaters. Always match the switch and socket rating to the appliance; using a 6A point for a high-load device risks overheating and failure.

What does 1-way and 2-way mean in a modular switch?

A 1-way switch controls a light or fan from a single location — the standard for most points. A 2-way switch lets you control the same light from two places, such as the top and bottom of a staircase or both sides of a bedroom. Two 2-way switches are wired together to achieve this dual-control function.

How many modules does a typical switch plate need?

Modules are measured in 1M units. A single switch or socket is usually 1M, while a 16A socket or fan regulator can take 1M to 2M. Plates come in 1M, 2M, 3M, 4M, 6M and 8M sizes. Count the modules you need, add a blank for spares, then choose the matching plate size.
